Welcome to Fox Hay, Melbourne’s leading retailer of timber and building supplies. We’ve been providing Melbourne’s building trade and its DIYers with a superior supplies service ever since Basil Fox and Ian Hay founded Fox Hay Timber & Hardware in 1954. Back then, we were in Beach Street, Port Melbourne and when we started, It was to make wooden boxes and crates for the canning, soft drink and other industries.

In time, cardboard came to replace wood in the food packaging business, and Fox Hay had to diversify. So we started to wholesale timber supplies, in particular ply veneer board and hardwood for the furniture manufacturing trade. As we have always believed in the value of delivering high quality service through product knowledge, we were always alert to the needs of our customers, and before long we began expanding the range of building materials and products we stocked.

By 1990, we were a fully-fledged supplier of retail timber, hardware and general supplies to Melbourne’s building trade. At the same time, we were making a name for ourselves as a supplier to the film and TV set-making industry and among display and events companies.

From the very beginning, we have emphasised the importance of customer service in growing our business. Although we are now a sizeable company, we still have a “small business” attitude to our customers, with a tight-knit knowledgeable team who always have time to answer our customers’ questions.
