Nowadays, there is a much greater choice of insulation materials than ever before. Where the structure of the building allows, and to be thoroughly energy efficient, a home should have underfloor, wall and ceiling insulation. It’s worth noting that a home that is thermally insulated can also provide effective soundproofing, but you have to know which ones will do the job.
In the building industry, the insulating properties of a material are measured by their R value. Broadly speaking, the higher the R value of a material, the greater its insulating capacity. However the R value deals only with the thermal conductivity of a material, and neglects its capacity to allow heat to pass through it by radiation or convection. Given that many materials used for insulation are loose, this can be an important consideration in choosing an insulation product. And as we know all too well, many insulation batts deal with radiative and convective heat transfer by the use of foil finishes which must be handled carefully in the presence of electrical wiring.
At Fox Hay, we carry all the recognised insulation products, and we stay current with all aspects of their use. Come into our South Melbourne warehouse, or call us, tell us about your insulation project, and we will walk you through the various options available to you, so that you’ll be able to choose the insulation method/product, that best matches your project and your pocket. Choose from polyester, wool, cellulose and fibreglass, or speciality acoustic batts and look to our friendly team for tips on safe and efficient installation.
